Hapa Bento Back-to-School Bento Contest!

As we all know, it’s that time of year. And to celebrate, we’ve once again partnered with one of our favorite Bento sites, Hapa Bento, to offer you a chance to win an addition to your bento collection. Here’s what the lovely Debra has to say:

“Woo hoo!  It’s Back-to-School Bento Contest time!

But first… today’s Back-to-School bento is filled with yummy Lazy Tuna Sushi. The basic recipe is here.

And  as you can see the recipe can be modified to suit your tastes.  This time I left out the scrambled egg and bulked up on the tuna.

The very roomy bottom tier allows for a whole boiled egg which I molded into a fun fish-shape, zucchini, carrots and cherries!

Yes… my bento box collection has a new addition thanks to our friends at Japanistic.com

Isn’t it adorable?  And very versatile too.  I can think of many ways to pack this cutie!  How about a sammy in the bottom tier with fruit on top.

More information on about this adorable Elpha 2-Tier Onigiri Case along with other cool bento items can be found on their site.

What?  You say you’d like to have this box for your very own?  Okay… here how you can win one:

Teeny Tiny Lunches at Bentoriffic – with help from Japanistic

Thanks to Bentoriffic for showcasing our Bento Boxes at her blog, and for showing us the lunch she made for her little cutie. (I am simply mad for that Squirrel Bento. Love it!)

Bento Monogatari is complete! Watch it now!

Pieter Dirkx has completed his new film, Bento Monogatari, and now, it is complete with English subtitles. How often do we fans get a film about Bento–and so much more? Enjoy it!

Almost forgot to mention – you may want to wait until the kids go to bed as some scenes may not be appropriate for little ones.

Cute animals on the outside of your Bento Box, to match the cute ones you put inside.

If I have the sweet animals on the outside, I’m thinking I can be lazier about what’s inside. Do you agree?  At least then there would be cuteness represented in one part of the bento, and people might not notice that my bento skills are, ahem, limited.

In the last few days, we’ve added any number of new bento, now available in the new products section at Japanistic.

This Circus Elephant Bento comes as a set of two, with his friend the Fishing Pig. How lucky they are that their “daily life overflows with happiness.”

Squirrel and Duck also come as a set of two.

Rabbit offers you a basket of fresh strawberries. And there’s a matching rabbit fork with cover.

Our friend the Lion has his head in the clouds, and guards your lunch on this larger bento box.

As always, more coming soon. In the meantime, have a great weekend and happy shopping!

My son’s taste is unusual for a ten-year old

My son has always had an adventurous palate. This was a recent school snack. Paté, rosemary crackers, cornichons, and watermelon. All packed neatly in BPA free, dishwasher safe, bento and fruit boxes. What about your kid? What odd things does your child eat?

Kokeshi Doll Bento, inspired by our new mug!

I am loving this new bento from My Lunch is Cuter, and not just because it was inspired by our new Kokeshi Doll Mug.

Here’s what she has to say about it:

I follow Japanistic_com on Twitter and a couple of days ago they promoted their Kokeshi Doll Mug.  While looking at it I was inspired to make a Kokeshi Doll bento.

In this bento my kokeshi doll is made using provolone and cheddar cheese with nori accents and I placed her on a bed of white rice dyed blue with food coloring.  I also have some chicken teriyaki, broccoli, a mini sweet pepper, carrots, grape tomatoes, a Babybel cheese, strawberry and pineapple.  All of my flowers are made with beef bologna and provolone. (via)

I am especially enamored with the little flowers, and her ridiculously cute hair-complete with bun. Also, I am hungry, and this would hit the spot right now, even though I would feel tremendous guilt about eating her.

Thanks for sharing this with us, and for letting me share it with our fans!
