My obsession with vintage books continues. Down the rabbit hole I go and into the “stacks” at Modern Classic. Books, magazines, cookbooks and more from a “Classic but Modern Bookstore.”
I love this Okusama series of cooking magazine images from the 1960s.
Vintage Japanese craft books? Yes, please.
Cookbooks with cute characters? Yup.
And vintage fashion? Oh Yeah Baby!
Don’t we all need a suit like that one?
Picture books too. This one feels reminiscent of one of my favorites, The Lonely Doll.
I am not sure what to make of these guys. But I like ‘em.
Trust me when I say that these books are worth some time spent on the internets. In fact, I am having to pull myself away because I want to look at EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Hey there Cookie Boy, are you bringing me a tasty treat?
I’m not a big watcher of dessert cooking shows, mostly because the idea of being able to do difficult things with icing is so outside of my skill set, I can’t really relate. Somehow, however, I am intoxicated by the artistry and playfulness from Cookie Boy, a Japanese cookie artist who can do things with icing that blow me away.
When cookies are like these, it’s more than baking. It’s true cookie artistry, and Cookie Boy exhibits work as such.

Just saw these felted California rolls in person at the Twist Craft Fair. From Fuzz-e-Food.

Personally, I’m partial to the felted Apple Ornament.

Kokeshi Doll Bento, inspired by our new mug!
I am loving this new bento from My Lunch is Cuter, and not just because it was inspired by our new Kokeshi Doll Mug.
Here’s what she has to say about it:
I follow Japanistic_com on Twitter and a couple of days ago they promoted their Kokeshi Doll Mug. While looking at it I was inspired to make a Kokeshi Doll bento.
In this bento my kokeshi doll is made using provolone and cheddar cheese with nori accents and I placed her on a bed of white rice dyed blue with food coloring. I also have some chicken teriyaki, broccoli, a mini sweet pepper, carrots, grape tomatoes, a Babybel cheese, strawberry and pineapple. All of my flowers are made with beef bologna and provolone. I am especially enamored with the little flowers, and her ridiculously cute hair-complete with bun. Also, I am hungry, and this would hit the spot right now, even though I would feel tremendous guilt about eating her.
