In the wake of the oil spill, I’m having a hard time listening to or reading the news. Like all of us, I feel helpless. But what if the news was Manganized? Japanese website Manga No Shimbun converts the day’s news into Manga, for your reading pleasure.

Is it just that this style makes the news easier to digest? I don’t think that’s it for me.

According to Weburbanist, editor Son Yang thinks that “reporting the news in a manga format will make it much easier to understand current events and will help attract attention from people on broader walks of life.” (via)

And the goal is not to minimalize the seriousness of the situations they cover. “Manga No Shimbun isn’t trying to editorialize the news, making it humorous or satirical. They’re just breaking it down into engaging, easy-to-understand works of art. Next up? Versions in Korea, French, and - yes - English.

Barack? Rachel Maddow? Perhaps Jon Stewart in Manga? I’d read it every day.
