How do you use those darn egg molds?

Every once in a while, I like to look at who our fans are–those folks who follow us on Facebook for both the La Motif blog and Japanistic. This time, I was delighted to see the blog Le Petit Pot, not only because it’s such a sweet blog-in Spanish and English-but because she pointed out the terrific Just Bento post on using the Egg Molds we have been selling at Japanistic.

In the store, people are constantly asking us how these things work. And now, I can point them to the online tutorial at Just Bento. With instructions and visual aids, this is inspiring me to bring an egg mold home and try it myself. Especially if I can make something as cute as this.

What do I love about this? It’s simple, clear, and shows you what to do, but also, what an egg mold failure looks like. This poor egg is destined to become egg salad.

The tutorial even tells you how to dye your eggs! (For the brown, roll them in soy sauce–genius! And for the pink, some food coloring in water.)

I plan on using my own molds soon, but I’m not sure that I’ll be posting my results online. A little practicing first…
