Every once in a while, I peek at Hi-Fructose to see what Contemporary Art wonders they have to show me. This week, two Japanese artists who are working with recycled materials to create their art.

First, the Sneakers as Sculpture work done by artist Mita Shiniti, and recently on exhibition at the Gallery Speak For. According to Hi-Fructose, Shiniti removes the soles of the shoes, using the flexible leather to create something completely new. I never knew I liked Nikes this much.

Hi-Fructose also profiled the work of artist Haroshi, who uses traditional mosaic techniques with a non-traditional medium. Utilizing recycled skateboards, Haroshi creates beautiful pieces that don’t look like they came from your old decks. Gorgeous colors and smooth shapes, and of course, they’re just cool.
