Welcome to Japanistic

When we decided to start Japanistic.com, our first thought was “at last!” At last a place to showcase the cool, fun, well-designed Japanese products we’ve loved for so long. At last a place to explore the range of creative, innovative things being produced by the Japanese designers we love. At last, a place to recognize the significant influence a uniquely Japanese aesthetic has upon products from places other than Japan, and a place to explore the work of Japanese-American designers working in the U.S.

All of us at Japanistic.com have a deep appreciation for both traditional and contemporary Japanese design. We are fans of Japanese pop culture, but we also recognize that Japan is much more than Manga and Hello Kitty. It’s that expanded vision that we bring to Japanistic.com

Japanistic.com is the newest member of the Essentials family, which includes ShopEssentials.net, and Shoptintin.com, and started as a bit of an experiment. Originally titled Parlez-Vous Japonais, the “Japan” section of our website was a vanity project, a place to highlight the products we loved, but that we didn’t know if other people would appreciate quite as much.

We quickly found that others valued what we were doing. The “Japan” section of our site grew so quickly, Japanistic.com was the next logical step. Now, we hope to make it even easier for you to find all of your favorite Japanese products, except the Hello Kitty, and perhaps to discover some new things. We plan on continuing to explore, to seek out the newest and most innovative products we can find, and hope you come visit often.
